High quality, well written content is the key to generating greater user traffic on your website. Search engines, such as Google, now reward such content with improved ranking in accordance to the quality of content on sites.

You can no longer pay your way to the top. Top ranking refers to users searching for a particular business, the results they are faced with are in a certain order, it is most likely they will choose one of the top three options to start their search. Therefore, every business wants to at least be on page one of Google. This is where search engine optimisation (SEO) comes in; by optimising your website content you will have greater visibility on search engines and will be best placed to increase online traffic on your website.

Great SEO is all about fresh and insightful content packed with relevant keywords and original text. Make sure the text will appeal to your target market, writing for a five star fine dining restaurant will have a different style of text than that of a video games shop. Identify trends in content and what works well with your business demographics (but don’t copy!) through research. Ensure you keep content as interesting and as digitally enriched as possible by adding links to other sites, social media platforms and videos. Use images that are meaningful and eye-catching, this could save on the volume of text and irrelevant pictures are less likely to appeal to readers.

As well as picking up on great content that is likely to boost a website’s ranking, search engines can also recognise poor content and this can lead to a Google penalty. This will lower your website’s ranking so you will no longer be near the top of the results when users search for sites related to your business. You may even receive a penalty without realising; rewriting and ensuring your content is effective can remove your penalty.

This is why SEO is so essential, you’ve got to get your content right to boost your site’s performance.
