Facebook Reactions

Likes have been on Facebook for a long time now but Facebook are soon going to introduce their latest emotions feature; Facebook Reactions.

The new feature will allow the user to have a choice of 6 different emotions to add to a post rather than just liking it – These range from ‘Like’ to ‘Angry’. This new development from the technology giant comes following a continual push for a ‘Dislike’ button on the site although the business wouldn’t allow it.

Facebook’s new feature will allow the user to portray a wider range of emotions towards a post and allows their reaction to be more relevant to the post as the business have realised that a ‘Like’ isn’t always the most appropriate reaction depending on the post. Mark Zuckerberg realised that sad posts such as a family death isn’t relevant to have likes and that users of his site should have more choice.

Having trialled the new feature in countries such as Ireland and Spain, Facebook found that some of the original emotions weren’t needed or confused users. They did find, however, that most of their users would be interested in using the new feature and therefore would be beneficial for the site.

Facebook have created themselves a unique selling point that no other social media platforms currently have and incorporating emoji’s into their website is a very clever idea due to the rapid rise in their usage. However, with Twitter creating their own branded emoji’s for events such as sporting events like the Australian Open, it could be soon to follow in a similar feature on the platform too.

For businesses, Facebook Reactions could be a major benefit! With businesses and marketers being able to see the reaction to posts much more clearly than currently, they will be able to better determine which posts have been most engaging for the users. It has been revealed that this new feature will also be added into insights to make analysing the platform’s usage much more accurate and detailed.

We’re looking forward to seeing the new feature on our Facebook very soon and testing the new Reactions for ourselves!

We would love to hear your thoughts on the new feature?
