10 SEO mistakes to avoid

Ensuring that your website ranks highly on search engines is important especially as the top 3 results on search engines get 61% of clicks and 75% of people will not search past the first page. Therefore, businesses must consider SEO ( Search Engine Optimisation ) and making sure their ranking is as high as possible to maximise potential for traffic to the website.

Check there’s no mistakes on your site; here’s some of the most common SEO mistakes that are made –
- Keyword stuffing – As good as having keywords is, keyword stuffing is where your metadata is full of keywords and Google penalise you for doing it! So remember, keywords are good but not too many!!
- Broken links – Links are great to lead customers to another part of your site, however, broken links can cause problems especially because it will affect your reputation! Remember to check your site regularly to ensure that everything is working as it should.
- Plagiarism – Researching what your competitors are posting is excellent, however, copying their content shouldn’t be done because it’ll boost their site instead of yours! Re-write their content so that you say the same thing in your own words to avoid copying them!
- Repeating yourself – Don’t repeat your own content on more than one page on your website – Google won’t boost your ranking any higher!
- Have quality content – Make sure your content is good and worth reading! Your content must be worth reading because then it will get more traffic and your ranking will rise.
- Have unique tags – Similar to repeating content, make sure that titles and headings to your post vary too!
- Metadata – metadata is what is searched in the search engine and what helps find your content – Make sure it’s unique and not repeated!
- Make sure your links are good! If you have links on your site, ensure that the links are to a credible source. Ensure that the link is going to a site that is relevant to your business too.
- Analytics – You must use analytics – you need to measure your SEO and this is the easiest and most effective way to do it!
- Optimising keywords – Make sure that you optimise keywords that are relevant to your business – You need to ensure that those keywords will help find your business!
